Welcome to this months newsletter, the plan is to get one of these out each month to all plot holders with any news, decisions from committee, offers and any orders we are making.
Firstly it's been an incredibly busy month on the site, we've now got ten new plot holders and there is only one plot vacant, soon to be filled!
Please welcome them,
Plot 25 - Andrew
Plot 56 - Adam
Plot 47 - Ming
Plot 48 - Tricia
Plot 41 - Heidi
Plot 30 - Steven
Plot 28 - Joanne
Plot 36 - Dennesse
Plot 34 - Tracey
Plot 29 - Zoe (helping Derek)
Una and Ian Montford - raised beds
It would be good if some of the new people (or even the older plot holders) volunteered to join the committee to ensure their is a good mix. If interested please contact us.
Some of the new guys have asked about potentially chipping in from a strim of their sites prior to ground covering. As a result of this we wanted to put a shout out to who would be interested? We could contact the previous person who did this and see how many plots they could do in a day and divvy up the costs between those plots?
Next volunteer day will be the 13th June from 12-2, we plan to attempt to paint both the porta cabins and the graffiti wall at the back. If anyone has any contacts for paint or equipment please let us know.
Also here is a link for new plotholders to a decent website doing ground cover for those who want to control the weeds on their site. www.scotplantsdirect.co.uk/growing-needs/weed-control/spunbonded-fabrics make sure you use a decent amount of pegs as the wind can sometimes lift this. Also We would suggest you cut back your plots growth and dig out the really large weeds before putting this down.
Once the two orders of top soil up top are removed by those plot holders who bought them we will run another top soil order. A ton is around £28 including delivery which is a lot cheaper than other places, the soil is good quality. If you want to go on the next order please let us know. Also if you have a current allocation of the top soil on the site, please aim to move that to your plot as quickly as possible to free space for the next delivery.
Also we are going to gather yet another order for scaffold boards! These usually cost around £3 each, and there would be a shared delivery charge of around £15 for a load of up to 50 boards, let us know many boards you would require. This would be at individual members’ expense, We will divvy up the cost once the order is received at the site.
Compost bins are still being ordered at £15 each plus a shared £5 delivery, for people clearing their sites these are a must. You can pretty much recycle most green waste, below is a useful weblink on how composting works. www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/basics/how-to-make-compost/86.html.
If interested please let us know before the end of next week, 29th May.
Once people are ready we plan to make an order for bark chippings in a similar way as we did for topsoil.
As the site is now pretty much full I think it's worth sending out a note about health and safety on the site.
Please be aware that all children and dogs should be kept supervised on the site and not allowed to roam onto other persons plots. There are a lot of hazards on the site like the scaffold boards, ditches, tools and the fencing area. Please treat other plots with the due care you would expect them to treat you.
Remember it's not just veg that you can grow, why not inject some colour into your plot and the site and grow some lovely flowers.
The majority of people have now paid their fees, if you haven't yet then try and grab a committee member (Lisa, Stephen naysmith, mark heron, Colin stanage, Mary leishman). Please provide your proof of East Renfrewshire residence and payment of either £40 for a half or £75 for a full plot. Cheques can be made payable to Eastwood Nursery Allotment Association.
Finally if you happen to take some pictures of your efforts to tag us in them on Twitter or send them to us as it would be nice to start a gallery of the site.
Happy growing
